About Me
Hello, welcome to RiceLot.com. My name is Cindy and I’m currently living in Texas with a family of four. I have two boys and a wonderful husband. Wish I have a little girl. Oh well, you can’t always get what you want. I have also lived in the big apple for a number of years and still have family living there.
We have visited them from time to time by driving. We don’t really like taking the plane and the hassle of checking in with security and our luggage. It is a very long drive from Texas to the big apple. It took us about 29 hours for the trip. It is kind of cool to be able to see a lot of different states that we pass through. Sometimes we spend a night in a hotel if we are too tired from driving. Have you taken a drive to the big apple? The hotels there are pretty pricey for one night. Luckily we can stay with family members to make the trip affordable for us.
I have been eating rice for my entire life and so does my whole family. Sometimes we eat noodles if we are tired of eating rice for a day, but usually we don’t. I can never tire of eating white rice. It is kind of like other Americans not getting tired of eating bread. If you are asking what race I am, yes, I am an Asian who loves eating rice 😛
I still remember the first time cooking my white rice and I was only 13 years old. I had to ask my mom to teach me how to do it, such as how many cups of rice, and how much water to put in the rice cooker. Back then my parents also had a very simple kind of rice cooker, the kind that can only cook white rice and keep your rice warm when it is done.
There is more than one way to put the water in the cooker if you forget the number of cups of rice you put in. All you have to do is use one of your fingers to measure the water level. Do you see those lines or joints on each of your fingers? Just make sure you don’t press all the way down to the bottom of the rice cooker with your fingers. Just barely touch the rice with your fingers and the water level is about half of that finger before the first line or joint on your finger.
This is an old fashioned way of measuring the water level. My mom taught me this technique. I don’t use it anymore. I thought I would like to share it with you. Just make sure to use the same measuring cups that come with the rice maker to cook your rice. The measurement might be off if you are using other measuring cups and it is not recommended to do that because the finished cooked rice might not have optimal results.
